health care

Our health and well-being are the most important elements for longevity. ... Good nutrition is an important part of leading a healthy lifestyle. Combined with physical activity, our diet can help us to reach and maintain a healthy weight, reduce our risk of chronic diseases (like heart disease and cancer), and promote our overall health join us to make this happen.(MARK 2:3,11)

One of the main effects of poverty is poor health, as is reflected in Nigeria's high infant mortality and low life expectancy. Poor people in Nigeria face several health issues as they lack basic health amenities and competent medical practitioners.
Historically, health insurance in Nigeria can be applied to a few instances: free health care provided and financed for all citizens, health care provided by government through a special health insurance scheme for government employees and private firms entering contracts with private health care providers The top causes of death in Nigeria are; malaria, lower respiratory infections, HIV/AIDS, diarrheal diseases, road injuries, protein-energy malnutrition, cancer, meningitis, stroke and tuberculosis.

Malaria, HIV Leading Causes of Death in Nigeria Study. Lagos — A new Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) has revealed that malaria and HIV were leading causes of death in Nigeria. Oct A major cause of ill health and barrier to accessing health care when needed. Is poverty. This relationship is financial:, the poor cannot afford to purchase those things that are needed for good health, including sufficient quantities of quality food and health care. But, the relationship is also related to other factors related to poverty, such as lack of information on appropriate health- promoting practices or lack of voice needed to make social services work for them.
Ill health, in turn, is a major cause of poverty. This is partly due to the costs of seeking health care, which include not only out-of-pocket spending on care (such as consultations, tests and medicine), but also transportation costs and any informal payments to providers. It is also due to the considerable loss of income associated with illness in developing countries, both of the breadwinner, but also of family members who may be obliged to stop working or attending school to take care of an ill relative. In addition, poor families coping with illness might be forced to sell assets to cover medical expenses, borrow at high interest rates or become indebted to the community.

The most vulnerable populations in Nigeria include children, pregnant women, people living with disabilities, elderly, displaced, unemployed, retirees and the sick. Although these vulnerable groups sometime benefit from free health care services and exemption mechanisms, they largely have to pay for health care services. Free health care services and exemption mechanisms are often politically motivated, are poorly implemented, do not become fully operationalised, and sometimes only last a few years.

The quality of health care services delivered is poor and remains a huge source of concern. Most of the facilities that are supposed to meet the health needs of the poor and rural dwellers are in a poor state  Strong  health systems  improve the health status of the whole population, but especially of the poor among whom ill health and poor access to health care tends to be concentrated, as well as protect households from the potentially catastrophic effects of out-of-pocket health care costs. In general, poor health is disproportionately concentrated among the poor.
In the light of this challenges SOAR FOR CHRIST INTERNATIONAL has been mobilizing relief to indigents residence in the recent.
